Monivent AB announces that the company has been granted an additional patent by the European Patent Office (EPO). The patent relates to a European divisional patent application belonging to the same patent family as a previously granted Swedish patent entitled “Monitoring Arrangement for Flow Constriction”. The patent covers technical solutions incorporated into the company’s disposable components. A patent providing corresponding protection has previously been granted by the Swedish Intellectual Property Office (PRV). Patents protecting other aspects of the technology have previously been granted by the Swedish Intellectual Property Office (PRV), the European Patent Office (EPO), the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

The patent now granted by the European Patent Office (EPO) protects specific elements of the design of the company’s mask adapter, including the configuration of flow channels and pressure connections, which contribute to enabling reliable, high-precision flow measurement in a compact and cost-effective design. The mask adapter is part of the Neo100 system and is used together with the sensor module to enable measurement of the pressure and flow of air delivered to the patient during manual ventilation. This information is then presented to the healthcare professional, who can make the necessary adjustments to ensure that treatment is as effective and gentle as possible.

“The mask adapter, which is a disposable component of the Neo100 system, is essential to the functionality of the company’s products. Sales of disposable components will also account for an increasing share of the company’s revenue as the installed base of systems in the market grows. We therefore see strategic value in further strengthening the patent protection for this component,” says Maria Lindqvist, CEO of Monivent.

Monivent AB (”Monivent”) develops, manufactures and sells medical devices in order to improve the emergency care provided to newborns in need of respiratory support at birth. About three to six percent of all newborns end up in this critical situation and healthcare professionals today lack good tools to determine how effective this manual ventilation is. Monivent has developed equipment that measure the airflow to the child directly in the face mask via a sensor module that sends data wirelessly to an external monitor. The caregiver thereby receives immediate feedback, which enables necessary adjustments to support an effective but at the same time gentle treatment. The company is also marketing a product for simulation-based training on manikins, building on the same technology as the clinical product.
